Why I can’t agree with GM crops

April 1st, 2010 | 3 Comments | Posted in Current Affairs

Prof.M.S Swaminathan, messiah of  Indian green revolution, said and I quote “Unless R&D efforts on GM foods are based on principles of bio-ethics, bio-safety, bio-diversity conservation and bio-partnerships, there will be serious public concern in India, as well as many developing countries, about their ultimate nutritional, social, ecological and economic consequences”
I believe his words and I doubt the ‘  nutritional, social, ecological and economic consequences’ of GM crops this is the main reason why I can’t agree with GM crops.
GM crops put forward the concept of adding of all good qualities of the species. It is simply against the natural law. Natural law is selection -it is the survival of the fittest, not the strongest. Fitness means adaptation. Not the species with only the good qualities. If we determine to produce only the quality ones there will not be any diversity in nature. Nature’s beauty is it’s diversity.
With all my intelligence I can’t believe that GM crops won’t cause any damage to the body. It do cause.  GM crops, in the long run, would eliminate all the natural breeds. Food will become a corporate product and that will question human survival.
Helen Keller, Napoleon (I refer his height only), E.M.S were born with disabilities. If we implant GM crop concept to human beings, I doubt neither of them would have been born. Humans should search for alternate methods to quench hunger. GM crops disturbs the balance of nature and hence it is harmful.
